Introduction

Located between King’s Cross St Pancras station and Euston station, where Crossrail and HS2 are planned to terminate, Phoenix Road Green Corridor project was a Public Realm feasibility study assessing options to enhance the existing green infrastructure.

The study also sought to provide a safer, more attractive and easy to navigate environment for cyclists and pedestrians, away from the air quality and congestion issues on Euston Road.

Working in partnership with LDA Design, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the traffic and transport conditions on the site to highlight the constraints and opportunities for enhancing the green infrastructure and public realm. This included traffic and pedestrian surveys and parking data and review of junction layouts.

This informed the production of several options introducing road closures and one-way systems in the wider area. It also included relocating or removing parking bays in order to decrease through traffic and reduce car dominance whilst maintaining access for residents, servicing and delivery access for non-residential uses and maximising the quality of the landscaping.
