Introduction

The team at Momentum have a long history of working with The Ritz London, having delivered the preferred traffic engineering and public realm design option to provide an improved layout for the main entrance of the hotel on Arlington Street.

In order to support the development of an enhanced entrance to this iconic hotel, the Momentum team undertook an extensive review of the local highway network, and developed a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of this world class establishment. This enabled appropriate highway and parking management strategies and detailed design schemes to be developed to support an enhancement to the public realm and the customer experience.

Momentum also supported the proposals for an extension to the Hotel, and were responsible for the production of the Transport Assessment to support the planning application. This included detailed logistics and servicing studies, and the development of a new servicing strategy for the expanded hotel. By providing off-street basement servicing facilities, we were able to ensure minimal impact on the local highway network. This also enabled back of house operations to be kept separate from the front of house, thereby reducing the impact on the visitor experience.

Whilst supporting the proposals for an extension to The Ritz Hotel, the team were involved in extensive stakeholder engagement with various relevant parties, from Westminster City Council as the local planning authority to local neighbouring residents and customers of The Ritz Hotel. This enabled Momentum to gain a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of all relevant parties, which fed into the approved design that has now been implemented.
