Introduction

The client was assessing potential improvements to stations on the network and needed to understand the capacity requirements that would need to be incorporated into any building or footprint changes. Momentum Transport were commissioned to assess the gateline requirements for the station at Wickford in future years taking account of passenger numbers and anticipated growth in demand.

Momentum arranged for passenger surveys to be undertaken at Wickford Station to ascertain the passenger demand for each platform and the entrances and exits to the station that were used. This data was then used to undertake an assessment of the number of ticket gates required in the future scenario taking account of growth in passengers over time.

This was presented as a technical note advising of the relevant queuing space needed and associated ticket gates required to enable passenger flows to operate safely and effectively without over providing expensive infrastructure.
