Introduction

YTL Arena Bristol will be a 17,000 capacity entertainment arena proposed in Bristol, located within the now disused Brabazon aircraft hangars. Once opened, the venue will host major music, sporting and entertainment events, with additional space for conferences, exhibitions, food and lifestyle uses. The planned opening year is 2023.

Momentum were commissioned by YTL to provide transport consultancy services for the YTL Arena Bristol scheme for both the design and planning application stages. Momentum undertook a review of the existing and committed transport infrastructure around the site that is being delivered through the wider Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood development. This included gaining an understanding of the planning and transport context of the site from the existing outline planning permission to the public transport infrastructure improvements due to be delivered over the coming years. As well as preparing an operational plan for the event day transport strategy, Momentum undertook complex traffic modelling of the A38 to reassure the local authorities that the site was suitable for the scheme. Momentum also provided input on the changes that would be required to the adjacent mixed use masterplan, which had outline planning permission, to accommodate the arena complex.

YTL Arena Bristol was approved for planning in March 2020.
